Dwayne Matthews

Dwayne Matthews is a Film Studies graduate from County Armagh, Northern Ireland. He studied at Queen’s University Belfast in both film production and theoretical film. During his time at Queen’s Dwayne developed an admiration for modern Hollywood Cinema as well as a deep appreciation for the ground breaking techniques employed by some pioneers of early cinema. Exposure to the workings of these innovators taught Dwayne the value of sound basic skills and the need for a thorough understanding of film composition. Dwayne proved to have excellent camera skills built around his strong basics approach and post-production understanding.

Prior to University education, Dwayne attended Newry Institute of Further and Higher Education where he excelled while studying media. In his time at the Institute he became a central figure in all activities including film shorts, script writing and radio production. Dwayne played a pivotal role in the Institute’s Talking Newspaper, a weekly news and entertainment audio production for the visually impaired. The learning environment at the College was excellent, encouraging creativity, enthusiasm and the necessity to organise as a team to obtain the best result from any circumstance.

Outside of education Dwayne has taken part in RTE’s Nationwide television show under the guidance of veteran media and film producer / presenter Rowan Hand.

Dwayne worked with regional newspaper of the year, The Newry Democrat before eventually starting myApricot.

During this time he covered a variety of stories from news to sport. The Queen’s graduate has a keen interest and understanding of martial arts and while at The Democrat was the newspaper’s sole active journalist on this sporting area.

Dwayne has written several articles on martial arts and other combat sports for Ireland’s leading martial arts magazine, Irish Fighter. These articles include training and dietary insight, seminar and event reports, and interviews with martial arts experts.

Dwayne’s personal hobbies include martial arts, combat sports, and health and fitness. He enjoys a range of film genres and musical tastes, naming John Ford as his favorite all time directors. Dwayne has interests in history, sport, film technology and environmental issues.
